Massage Therapy Types

Listed below are brief of explanations of the different massage therapies offered by our therapists.

  • Swedish- A combination of hands-on techniques such as gliding, kneading, tapping, friction, and vibration. It is the most commonly used massage to help energize and relax you.

  • Deep Tissue- Slow, more forceful strokes to target deeper layers of the muscles and connective tissue. It is most commonly used for muscle damage and/or injuries.

  • Sports- Very similar to that of Swedish. It is geared toward active people to help aid in prevention and recovery of muscles and/or injuries.

  • Trigger Point Therapy- Used to locate the most tender, irritable, and painful spots that may cause referred pain to another area of the body. It is used to locate and deactivate pain while using finger pressure or pinch grip.

  • Shiatsu Stretching- To assist in lengthening body and/or limbs to aid in mental/physical well being, energize, and balance.

  • Thai Massage- An ancient healing system that combines broad and targeted acupressure, stimulation, and assisted yoga postures to promote blood flow, wellness, and flexibility. Traditional Thai massage rarely uses oils or lotions, but may still be used per the client's desire. The recipient of the massage typically remains clothed as well. During the sessions, you will be pulled, stretched, and rocked at the hands of your massage therapist. Compression is often used in Thai massage because it can help increase healing to damaged tissues. Compressions accelerate the healing process by increasing oxygen and nutrients into the tissues. A typical full body session will include work done to your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck and shoulder. Thai massage typically lasts anywhere between 60-90 minutes long. This form of massage is more active than your typical massage. Regular massage will be administered in addition to the stretching provided in Thai massage.

  • Hot Stones- Warm, heated, smooth, stones used similar to Swedish to penetrate deeper muscle relaxation. Also used to decrease stiffness and melt away tension.

  • Neuromuscular Therapy- A therapy that alternates levels of pressure for ten to thirty seconds on concentrated areas of the muscle. It is generally used for spasms and to increase blood flow and oxygen to the muscle.

  • Myofascial release technique- Applies gentle, constant pressure to restricted tissue to eliminate pain and increase movement.

  • Cancer and massage- Massage modified to each person to help assist with side effects of radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, and medications.
